Breast augmentation or mammoplasty is accomplished by surgically inserting an implant behind each breast.
Individual factors and personal preferences, as well as the opinion and expertise of the surgeon affect the determination of the appropriate breast size to be implemented. Other factors to be considered are the location of incisions and whether breast implants will be placed on top of or underneath the chest muscle.
The size, type, and location of a breast implant may be determined by personal goals for breast enhancement, but also your existing body frame, and mass, your existing breast tissue, and prior or existing medical factors.
Breast Implants - Surgery : Incision location options
Under the breast or Inframammary
Around the nipple or Periareolar
In the armpit region or Transaxillary
Transumbilical (through the belly button)
Breast Implants : Location of implant
Subpectoral – under the pectoralis major muscle
Subglandular – over the pectoralis major muscle
It is important to note:
Breast implants are not permanent. Typically people who have had breast implant surgery will have further operations in the future to replace or remove the original implant.
